Driven by her desire to inspire the residents of this affordable housing project, Ai Sogawa Campbell’s “On My Way” is about nourishing the mind through windows to the outside world. The challenging focal corners of the two-story wall are oddly placed due to an elongated adjacent active staircase. The resulting execution is a series of empowering triangular windows that expand as residents approach the wall lobby from the elevator corridor, promoting a sense of freedom, as every day is an opportunity to grow. The mural features calming gradient blue, chrome, and translucent metallic tones to add dimensionality. Cut pieces of canvas are collaged onto the wall to create textured movements. When transposed against rigid white borders the effect is that of a series of windows which celebrate the strength and efficacy of vulnerability.
